South Korea reported that North Korea fired a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan today, Wednesday (4/5). They were immediately alert.
“A ballistic missile was fired by North Korea today at 12:03 am from around Sunan towards the East Sea [Laut Jepang]South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement AFP.
The statement continued, “Currently, our military is in a standby posture by tracking and monitoring movements regarding possible further launch preparations.”
Meanwhile, Japan’s Coast Guard also stated that North Korea launched “possibly a ballistic missile.”
If true, then North Korea has recorded more than seven missile tests so far this year, including the alleged Hwasong intercontinental missile.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un admitted that he wanted to strengthen the nuclear weapons program as a symbol of national power when he attended a military parade in late April.
“We will continue to take steps to strengthen and develop our country’s nuclear capability at the highest speed,” Kim was quoted as saying by North Korean state media. KCNA.
For Kim, North Korea’s nuclear weapons are a sign of national strength and must be diversified.
“In preparation for the volatile political and military situation, and all kinds of crises in the future, we will further increase nuclear power,” Kim said.
Kim claims North Korea’s nuclear weapons are a precautionary measure. The nukes could be deployed if Pyongyang’s fundamental interests were attacked.
“If any power tries to usurp the fundamental interests of our country, our nuclear power will have no choice but to carry out its second mission unexpectedly,” Kim said.
