It is in the café L’Institution, alongside Philippe Cochet, Marie-Hélène Mathieu, the mayor of Saint-Didier-au-Mont-d’Or, and Gilbert Suchet, mayor of Montanay, that Bastien Joint formalizes his candidacy during a press briefing. Aged 27, the Republican candidate intends to conquer the constituency around Caluire-et-Cuire, Limonest and Neuville-sur-Saône. The LR team agrees that “the constituency has been orphaned by a deputy for 5 years.”
“I could have gone back to a deputy’s approach, but I think it was more positive to allow a new generation to be able to carry the interest of our territory”confides Philippe Cochet, former deputy of the constituency. “It is necessary to bring up a new generation. People who are committed with a deep approach and who will bring a certain regeneration of all that”he continues before clearly showing his support for the candidate. “Bastien is one of those committed people, who know how to carry a project, who, when they say something, do it and it’s great in politics, it helps.” The mayor of Caluire-et-Cuire thus becomes co-chairman of the Bastien Joint support committee.
Bastien Joint deplores a climate of political tension: “I am really worried about the national political context with a breakthrough of the extreme left and right. One day it will be too late.” He does not hesitate, moreover, to express his opinion on the alliance of the left: “The Socialists and EELV have no other project than to ally with the far left and that worries me a lot.” Philippe Cochet in turn warns: “after the presidential election, someone who doesn’t ask questions is completely out of order.”
The first projects established in the event of an election
The main lines of his political project are beautiful and well defined: subjects related to “old age”, environmental and mobility issues as well as the representativeness of mayors.
The candidate sets out to conquer the mayors of the territory and wants to make it a priority. “There is really a project on which we must focus throughout this mandate, it is the Maptam law”firmly asserts Bastien Joint. “Today, a number of Val de Saône mayors are not represented in Lyon Metropolis. For me, this is not something understandable.”
According to him, “the law must be reviewed from top to bottom so that the mayors of our Metropolis can sit in the Metropolis and that we do not impose on them what is happening on the territory.” He is convinced that local elected officials are the key to finding lasting solutions. “I believe that the credibility of local elected officials must weigh in the national debate because it is as close as possible to the field, where the confidence of the inhabitants, of the French, is that we can find solutions”he expresses.
The candidate underlines the very strong support of Laurent Wauquiez, president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Christophe Guilloteau, president of the Rhône department, all the regional advisers of the sector of the 5th district as well as a certain number of advisers metropolitans and local elected officials.
It remains to know his opponents. Until today, the nomination of outgoing MP Blandine Brocard (MoDem) has not yet been formalized.
