KOMPAS.com – Cholesterol is essential for many processes in the human body.
But, not all types of cholesterol are the same and bad cholesterol levels need to be observed.
“The liver can produce cholesterol. In fact, the liver produces all the cholesterol it needs. The tricky part is that diet and lifestyle habits can also affect cholesterol levels,” says Dr. Joshua Septimus, professor of clinical medicine and medical director of the Houston Methodist Primary Care Group Same Day Clinics.

1. Smoking
Smoking habits are associated with higher levels of bad cholesterol.
“Smoking is really bad for the heart and smoking is literally one of the worst things we can do, not just for the heart, but for the brain, lungs, and all sorts of things,” says cardiologist Leslie Cho, MD.
So, people who smoke and have high cholesterol, have a double risk.
2. Alcohol consumption
Drinking too much alcohol can cause a dangerous increase in cholesterol.
