Lavrov’s comments, made during an interview with Italian television, prompted Israel to summon the Russian ambassador.
Lavrov made the remarks when he was asked why Russia felt the need to “denazify” Ukraine if the country’s own president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, was Jewish.

Moscow has repeatedly used the claim to justify an invasion of its neighbour.
“So when they say ‘How can Naziification exist if we are Jews?’ In my opinion, Hitler also had Jewish origins, so that doesn’t mean anything. For some time we have been hearing from Jews that the biggest anti-Semites are Jews,” Lavrov said.
“I could be wrong, but Hitler also had Jewish blood,” he said.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, whose grandfather died in the Holocaust, slammed Lavrov in a statement Monday.
“Foreign Minister Lavrov’s remarks are inexcusable and outrageous, and a terrible historical error,” he was quoted as saying. Fox NewsTuesday (3/5/2022).
