Suzuki withdraws from MotoGP at the end of this season?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki reported to be leaving the most prestigious motor racing event MotoGP at the end of this season.

Reported from Crash, some reports say members of the Suzuki team were informed of this surprising plan during a test session at the Jerez Circuit after the Spanish MotoGP on Monday (2/5). Interestingly, Suzuki had previously signed a permanent contract in MotoGP until 2026.

So far, Suzuki has remained silent regarding the news that they will leave MotoGP. This seems to indicate that the information circulating is not just a rumor.

Reportedly Suzuki’s decision to leave MotoGP will be official on Tuesday (3/5) local time. The news emerged that Suzuki left the MotoGP event for financial reasons.

Suzuki will leave the MotoGP arena for the second time if it decides to withdraw after this season. The Japanese manufacturer first left MotoGP in 2011 due to a financial crisis and returned in 2015.

This condition also means that their two riders Joan Mir and Alex Rins have to find a new team for MotoGP 2023. Although the process of finding a new team will likely only occur in the second half of MotoGP 2022.

Rins has defended Suzuki since 2017 and Mir joined in 2019. A year later or to be precise in MotoGP 2020, Mir managed to win the world title with Suzuki.

The news of Suzuki’s departure after the 2022 MotoGP also means that there will be only five manufacturers next season, namely Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, KTM and Aprilia.

The next 2022 MotoGP race will be held at the French MotoGP at the Le Mans Circuit on 15 May. Live streaming of the French MotoGP 2022 can be watched on CNNIndonesia.com, while the live broadcast is on Trans7.
