Born on April 18, 1984 in Los Angeles, America Ferrera can thank her parents for having chosen this destination when they emigrated from Honduras. Passionate about cinema from an early age, she took acting lessons at school. At just 18 years old, we discover her in Anafilmed in 2002, whose original title is Real women have curves. A film that suits her like a glove, when we know that the actress never ceases to denounce the dictatorship of the physical in Hollywood, and rebels when we qualify Eva Longoria and Jessica Alba as luscious women.
America Ferrera wins the Best Actress award at the Sundance Film Festival, a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards as well as the Young Artists Awards. A few television appearances will follow in The Experts or CSIuntil the key role of his career in 2007 in the series Ugly Betty, produced by Salma Hayek. Deliberately made ugly, the actress portrays a young Latin American with the appearance of a bum, who must be respected in the superficial world of fashion. From the top of her 55 meter, America explodes the screen and attracts all the rewards: after a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe Award, she is elected “Hispanic woman of the year” by the magazine Hollywood Reporter, and poses in the Marie-Claire English version where she reveals all her sensuality… far from the ungrateful physique of Betty Suarez.
America Ferrera is currently preparing a double master’s degree in theatre/international relations, actively supports Hillary Clinton in the presidential race and has just finished filming Four girls and jeans 2, soon in theaters. The rest of the time is spent with her boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams, a young Hollywood producer.
