L1 (J35): All about Montpellier

Montpellier is having a very, very painful end to the season, with two defeats in a row and an inability to win for long weeks. The MHSC has a very good chance of finishing the season in the second half of the table while Metz is on its side almost doomed in the race to maintain.

The stats you need to know (with Opta)

Montpellier have lost 16 of their 34 Ligue 1 appearances this season (12 wins, 6 draws), equaling their most defeats at this stage of the competition since returning to the top flight in 2009/10 achieved in 2015/16 (12th in the end).

Metz could be mathematically relegated to Ligue 2 in the event of a defeat at Montpellier (if St Etienne wins and Clermont and Troyes do not lose). It would then be the 10th time that the Lorraine club has descended to the 2nd division, equaling Strasbourg as the most often relegated club in the history of Ligue 1.

Metz have not won any of their last 13 Ligue 1 matches (5 draws, 8 losses), the longest current drought and their longest since November 2014-March 2015 (18).

Montpellier have conceded 16 goals in the last 15 minutes of their Ligue 1 matches this season, no team conceding more. This is his second highest total of its kind in the same exercise in the elite behind 2016/17 (17).

Metz have scored just 6 Ligue 1 goals in 2022, that’s 6 less than any other team this year.
