Car and truck on fire on E39:

According to the police, this is a collision between a truck and a car west of the Fosseland tunnel in Kvinesdal municipality. The accident happened outside the tunnel.

– Both the car and the truck are on fire, but there is no danger of explosion. The driver of the truck is out of the car, but we do not know how many there are in the car, says operations manager Lars Hyberg to TV 2 just before 11.30 pm on Saturday night.

He says it appears to be a serious accident. It burned violently when the police arrived at the scene, which is evident from a video TV2 has seen. The fire was spreading to the terrain, but the fire brigade gets control of it eventually.

– It is a serious accident, there is no doubt about it. Both the accident group of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and forensic technicians from the police have been called, says Hyberg.

The E39 on the Lyngdal-Flekkefjord section will be closed for a long time to come, and work is underway to find an alternative detour. On twitter, the road traffic center south of norway reports alternative detours:

The police were notified of the accident at 22.53.

At 00.20, the police reported that a fire was cooling the vehicles and that there was control of the fire in the terrain.

– We do not know how many people have been in the car. It will probably take some time before we can give an answer to that. The casualty group is on site, and will conduct its investigations throughout the night, says operations manager Tom Einar Gausdal to TV2.

According to him, the police have no ID on the car, it is heavily burned. It may take time before we know anything more. They have talked to the truck driver, but are completely open about what could be the reason why the car got into the wrong lane.
