Renewed incidents of scams via messenger services

Naumburg/Hettstedt. PRevMSH. On Friday, a 59-year-old woman from Naumburg received a message via the WhatsApp messenger service. Her supposed son called on an unknown number. He stated that he had a new phone number and asked a favor. The woman was supposed to transfer around 2,200 euros in several installments to an unknown account number. Since the communicator was very convincing, she arranged for the payments.

In a similar way, a 65-year-old woman from Hettstedt also transferred around EUR 2,500 in several installments to her supposed daughter. In both cases, it turned out that the money demands did not come from their children, but from strangers.

The police warn:
These perpetrators are very persuasive. Always be wary of contact via someone else’s phone number! Afterwards, always establish a personal connection to the alleged relative or acquaintance in a different way and make sure that the calls are genuine! Do not transfer money to unknown account numbers! Never give money to people you do not know! Report these incidents to the police!
