“Sport in the Park” is about to start
The State Secretary for Sport and Chairwoman of the Berlin State Commission against Violence Nicola Böcker-Giannini will open the “Sport-im-Park” season 2022 on May 1st and visit the Lessinghöhe Children and Youth Center. At 4:30 p.m., State Secretary Böcker-Giannini will be part of the stage program in the Alte Fasanerie family farm in Lübars for the traditional big bicycle rally of the three Reinickendorf sports clubs VfB Hermsdorf eV, TSV Wittenau eV and VfL Tegel e.
From May to October, as part of the “Sport-im-Park” program, there are over 270 exercise offers from 16 Berlin sports clubs in over 100 parks and green spaces in all Berlin districts – without registration, free of charge, barrier-free and accompanied by qualified exercise leaders.
At 2 p.m., State Secretary Böcker-Giannini, together with Neukölln district councilor Mirjam Blumenthal and police director Dirk Daube, will welcome visitors to the Lessinghöhe children and youth center. Under the motto “1. May – Together with respect”, the organizers invite you to a family festival, where the focus is on sport and exercise with a football and table tennis tournament, bicycle course, stilt walk and hip castles. There is also information on violence prevention, a book project, face painting and much more.
Sports Senator Iris Spranger: “I am delighted that these great family celebrations are taking place on May 1st. May 1st in Berlin is also dedicated to sports. After two years of the pandemic, the children and their families are longing for joint sporting activities and exercise. Sport is also an important tool for conveying values and norms of coexistence. It creates common ground and connects people of different backgrounds and cultures.”
