Artillery cannons retrieved from storage and tested
The defense has retrieved old artillery from the warehouse and tested it. No one wants to confirm that they can be sent to Ukraine, but the weapons are at least ready for use.
The artillery rifle of the type M109 has been retrieved from the warehouse and tested at Setermoen. The defense confirms to Aftenposten that the testing was successful.
There is a great deal of secrecy surrounding which weapons may be given to Ukraine in the future. This is for security reasons.
M109 are tracked artillery cannons with caliber 155 ammunition. The United States is sending 184,000 artillery shells of this caliber to Ukraine.
– The test shooting shows that the equipment works well. Everyone who has been tested works as they should, says spokesman Frank Sølvberg in the Armed Forces.
Avisa Fremover, which first mentioned the test shooting, writes that Norway has 55 such cannons in stock. According to the newspaper, around 20 of them have now been tested.
Aftenposten writes that the artillery fire will be the heaviest given to Ukraine so far. (NTB)
