Sietas in Hamburg: Huge interest in the site of the bankrupt shipyard

Now it’s all about the money: After the failure of any rescue attempts for Germany’s oldest shipyard Sietas in Neuenfelde, the property, the floating docks and the inventory have been up for sale since last week. As the insolvency administrator explained on Friday, the interest is huge!

According to NetBid, the industrial recycler commissioned with the auction, several hundred of the 4,000 objects used for metal processing and loading ships have already found new owners. The parts are brought under the hammer in several tranches.

Sietas shipyard: Numerous serious interested parties

But there are also “numerous serious interested parties” for the 14-hectare site on the Este, which is in the immediate vicinity of Airbus, according to lawyer Achim Ahrendt. The property is being sold including its permanently installed systems, which also include the cranes in the shipyard halls, three floating docks and the large Jucho gantry crane that can be seen from afar.

For the sale of these assets, Ahrendt initiated a so-called structured investor process in which possible buyers are specifically sought in order to collect the highest possible sum. “After the failed investor process to save the shipyard and its jobs, it is now only a matter of achieving the highest possible proceeds in order to serve the creditors. They also include hundreds of shipyard workers who had recently received no wages,” said a spokesman for the insolvency administrator.

Price: Whoever bids the most wins!

There is no target price. “The purchase price is determined solely by the competition,” said the spokesman. The spokesman did not want to comment on whether the 20 million euros that the contractor Steffen Lücking is said to have offered as the first bidder to appear by name according to media reports represent a realistic sum.

The final decision on who will be awarded the contract is made by the insolvency administrator together with the creditors’ committee, in which the former shipyard workers are also represented. It may be months before this decision is made. There is no time pressure. Achim Ahrendt: “Our goal is the best possible solution, not the fastest possible one.”
