Héma-Québec smashes its blood donation goal

Héma-Québec’s two blood drives in Baie-Comeau this week enabled it to collect 421 donations out of a target of 400.

The organization did indeed have a target of 200 donors per day, but the response from citizens exceeded its expectations.

Marie-Christine Bouchard is one of the people who responded. This was her second donation in life. “I’m proud of myself,” acknowledged the lady, after admitting that at her first donation, she felt a little bad for not having done so before.

Responsible for Thursday’s collection for the FADOQ of Hauterive, Georges Avoine appreciates the formula with appointment for donors, set up during the pandemic.

The Hauterive FADOQ worked closely with Héma-Québec in organizing the two blood drives. Manager on site Thursday, Georges Avoine pointed out that with one week’s notice, there were still 80 appointments to be assigned for Thursday. A message launched on Facebook was successful and people finally had to be refused.

Since the start of the pandemic, donors have had to make an appointment before coming to blood drives. Mr. Avoine appreciates the formula and he would like it to continue over time. “Before that, it created traffic jams and some got tired and left. »

Donors can now even make their appointments in advance for upcoming blood drives in Baie-Comeau. “We take names, phone numbers with the time they want to come. Héma-Québec will call them back. If they can’t, we’ll replace them with others,” explains the person in charge of the second day of collection, the first having been under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Lepage.
