Thousands celebrate the Kurdish New Year festival Newroz in Frankfurt

Several thousand people celebrated the Kurdish New Year festival Newroz in Frankfurt on Saturday. Kurds from all over Germany traveled to the festival.

A police spokesman spoke of around 5,000 visitors at noon, but there were still many more to come.

The central Newroz celebration in Germany was on the Rebstock site near the trade fair, so participants from all over Germany were expected.

So far everything is going peacefully, the police spokesman reported.

In addition to a central stage, dozens of tents were set up, speeches by representatives of various civil society associations and organizations, live music and dance were planned.

A visit by the Mainz social doctor and former Federal President candidate Gerhard Trabert (65) was also planned.

Newroz is always celebrated around the moment when day and night are of equal length.
