While the studio (after resting development to help Battlefield 2042) will soon show more of its game, Criterion alone is no longer in charge of the future of Need For Speed.
In 2019, Need For Speed last received a new installment. This was the Need For Speed: Heat, but not much has happened around the franchise since then in terms of new games. Okay, there was Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, but it’s just a reissue that didn’t get any updates (just like the Heat didn’t get any DLCs in retrospect), so since November 2020, everything that doesn’t shed good light has stopped. he used to live more beautiful days for a series.
Electronic Arts ’new business year began on April 1st, and Codemasters Cheshire is sure to be involved in developing the franchise. The new episode from Criterion Games will, in principle, be released this year (and should really be introduced soon), and Pete Johnson, senior head of Electronic Arts, wrote on LinkedIn that they are looking for a talented producer to make the future of Need For Speed. According to the post, Codemasters Chesire, already part of the EA umbrella, will be working with Criterion on the future of the series.
From the next part on to future-oriented initiatives, the two studios will work together to execute creative, technical, and functional things to align with the vision for the Need for Speed franchise strategy. We’ve seen DIRT 5 from Codemasters Cheshire, for example, but they’ve also implemented the PlayStation 2 WRC games, the MotorStorm series, and Driveclub (also known as Evolution Studios).
We don’t yet officially know if the new Need For Speed will be cross-gen, but we can be sure that it will definitely be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC by the end of the year (because the franchise often also timed his previous performances for the period).
