Schiphol warns this afternoon for large crowds at the airport. Travelers should take into account a longer waiting time.
According to Schiphol, the crowds are due to the large numbers of travelers during the May holidays and the staff shortages. “It is busy throughout the May holidays,” says a spokesperson. “And today, staff shortages, for example in security control, are again a challenge.”
Access to the airport terminal was restricted for some time in order to “manage the large passenger flows”. The terminal was back to normal at around 2.30pm. It is unclear how long the crowds will continue, according to the spokesperson.
On Saturday, crowds and chaos urged not to come to the airport again. This was partly due to a strike among the baggage staff, which resulted in dozens of flights being cancelled. The staff went on strike due to the high workload and the working conditions.
