JUlian Alaphilippe will have to remain under observation at the Herentals hospital before deciding on a “recovery plan” after his fall in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, while his teammate Ilan Van Wilder must give up the Tour of Italy. The Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team announced this Tuesday in a statement.

Alaphilippe suffers from two broken ribs, a fractured shoulder blade and a pneumothorax. “Due to the complexity of its condition, an additional observation period will be required before deciding on a recovery plan. He will remain at the Herentals hospital for the moment, ”said the Belgian team.

Sunday, Julian Alaphilippe was the main victim of a massive fall 62 km from the finish. The world champion fell into a ditch and remained motionless but conscious for a long time.
