On the Autobahn towards Berlin, an SUV driver crashed into the rear of a truck, was thrown out of his car and then run over by several following cars.
An SUV driver was killed in a serious accident on the A9 between Leipzig and Berlin on Wednesday evening. He was on his way towards the capital when, around 6 p.m., he fell under the trailer of a semi-trailer between the junctions at Klein Marlehns and Niemegk (Potsdam-Mittelmark district).
The force of the impact was so great that the Audi Q7 was shredded and the driver was thrown out of the car onto the road. Several drivers following behind recognized the situation too late in the dark and were unable to avoid it in time, as reported by a local reporter.

They rolled over the SUV driver and wreckage. The Audi driver died. According to the police, a total of 14 people were involved in the accident.
The fire brigade and the police were presented with a frightening picture: the body of the accident driver lay on the freeway, the debris field stretched over several hundred meters. The Audi was wedged under the truck and so badly deformed that the rescuers could not immediately tell if anyone was still in the car.

“Not an everyday accident,” said a fire department spokesman. “The car was pulled out with hydraulic rescue equipment and a cable winch. It was a challenge to pull it out and see if anyone else was in there.”
Those involved in the accident are offered psychological help
The firefighters involved may need psychological care – as should the road users who drove into the scene of the accident. They were taken off the Autobahn in a fire service bus on Wednesday evening and questioned, and were also offered psychological help.
According to the police, the autobahn in the direction of Potsdam was completely blocked for around seven hours. Officials are now investigating the cause of the accident. Among other things, it is still unclear how fast the Audi driver was traveling and how the SUV got under the truck.
