A 68-year-old from Schönwald received a WhatsApp message from her supposed daughter on Monday, asking for a money transfer. The unsuspecting woman complied – a fatal mistake.

Schönwald – There was another money rip-off through a WhatsApp message on Monday around 7.30 p.m. in Schönwald, according to the police. The victim, a 68-year-old woman, received a WhatsApp message from her “daughter” but via an unknown number. The supposed “daughter” explained the new number by saying that her cell phone was broken, which is why she couldn’t make an urgent payment on her cell phone. She therefore asked her mother to step in for her and transfer a four-digit amount to an account. The unsuspecting woman complied with this request, realizing too late that the message was not from her daughter, but from brazen scammers.

This scam with the Whats App messages is relatively new and, despite many warnings and tips, always leads to success for the crooks. The police warn of this scam rip-off via Whats App, which can be cracked with a simple trick before the money disappears “never again”: “Just call the author of the message or ask him or her for a voice message”, advises the police.
