In the spring of 2021, like other public performing arts establishments, the New Theater of Montreuil was occupied by artists, technicians and students, carrying a certain number of demands linked in particular to professional integration. Listening to their concerns, the National Dramatic Center implemented with the Emergency Emergence Collective regular work meetings intended to identify needs and there provide answers. Thus was born the idea of organizing in mid-June two professional days entitled “Gateways” dedicated to emergence. “This notion is quite complex, explains Pauline Bayle, director of the Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil since January 2022. It covers very different realities, in terms of integration but also of artistic approach, many young people choosing not to train within a higher education institution, which increases their difficulties in integrating the sector. »
Because entry into a career presupposes acquiring knowledge in terms of structuring and developing one’s activity, which is often lacking in young artists, the first day of encounter was thought out in the form of a “great forum of know-how”. Representatives of the various labels (conventioned stages, national scenes, CDN), directors and administrators of subsidized companies, as well as members of production offices, will be invited to attend. All will bring their expertise on such varied subjects such as administration, production, the search for funding and partners, the development of a grant application file, cultural action or even the technical dimension of a show. The measures proposed by the State, the Dracs, the local authorities and the independent bodies will also be presented. Emerging artists will also have the opportunity to meet individually with professionals. Finally, the Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil will deliver to companies and project leaders a ” toolbox “ designed in collaboration with the Collectif Urgence Émergence.
Le second part of “Passerelles” will endeavor to draw up a inventory of support for emergence, on the occasion of several round tables of which Cécile Backès, director of La Comédie de Béthune-CDN Nord-Pas-de-Calais and author of a survey on the integration of young actors will be the great witness. Alongside other national drama centers in the Ile-de-France region, the Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil will present the projects begun to support young creation since Pauline Bayle took office. The new director, whose project provides, among other things, for the setting up of a companionship system and the involvement of the theater in delegated production, will announce the organization of quarterly hotlines provided by the theater team to answer concrete questions posed by the artists. She will also discuss her intention to further share the tool, in all its dimensions: loan of equipment and rehearsal rooms excluding reception time in residence. “CDNs are often criticized for not broadcasting productions by young talents. However, there are many ways to support the emergence, and not only by programming shows”, emphasizes Pauline Bayle, who is already planning a second edition of “Passerelles” in addition to the actions carried out throughout the year by the New Theater of Montreuil.
Le detailed program of the two days will be communicated on May 9, 2022, the date from which interested artists and companies will be able to register.
