It was probably the wet wood. The rain had only stopped at noon, leaving a pile of wet wood behind. Accordingly, Böögg took his time before his head blew off. As tradition would have it, the wood pile was ignited punctually on the sixth stroke of St. Peter’s – but then nothing happened for a long time.
Only after about 30 minutes did the first of the 140 firecrackers explode. Only after 37 minutes and 59 seconds did Böögg’s head fly into the air. His predecessor from 2021, who had to switch to the Schöllenen Gorge in Uri because of Corona, lasted much less long at just under 13 minutes.
In general, the saying goes: The faster the Bööggen head explodes, the nicer and warmer the summer should be. According to this, the summer of 2022 should actually be even worse than the summer of 2021. And as is well known, this went down in history as the summer of floods.
However, there is still hope that the summer will still be warm and beautiful. As a weatherman, the Böögg is often wrong. If he predicts the summer correctly, it can be called a lucky hit with a clear conscience.
Almost new record time
In 2016, the Böögg lasted the longest. At that time, after 43:34 minutes, there was a “chap”. This year, Böögg’s head exploded after 37 minutes and 59 seconds.
Back to normal
For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the Zurich Spring Festival could be held as usual. Around 3,500 guild members marched through the city center to marching music.
They were joined by guests of honor such as Federal President Ignazio Cassis (FDP), entrepreneur Hausileuteegger, the former “Mister Corona” Daniel Koch, skiing legend Bernhard Russi and Zurich Mayor Corine Mauch (SP). Thousands of spectators lined the streets and handed bouquets of flowers to the celebrities.
In the TELE TOP report, viewers and guests such as Federal President Ignazio Cassis and Government Councilor Carmen Walker Späh talk about the importance of the Sechseläuten for them:
