Dream Theater, one of the most famous Progressive Metal bands in the world, recently won a Grammy for their song The Alien. The event caused a stir, and many people showed their support for the group.
In a recent interview for Metal Wani, Dream Theater singer James LaBrie revealed that even Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page are DT fans.
The singer explained that he met the two aforementioned musicians while on tour. Plant reportedly said Dream Theater was very good live just before he asked LaBrie for a cigarette.
LaBrie said: “I remember running into Robert Plant and Jimmy Page [en tournée]. I was sitting at the bar one day, and I don’t drink when I’m on the road, I was just sitting there, drinking a soda, water or something. And all of a sudden, Robert Plant came along and said to me, ‘Hey, man, I watched you the other day. You guys were really good. Then he said, ‘Hey, by the way, man, do you have a cigarette?’. I replied: ‘Robert, I don’t smoke’. And he said to me: ‘Good for you, good for you’. And then he moved on.”
Elsewhere in the interview, LaBrie also praised Led Zeppelin’s discography and the talent of the band members.
He stated : “When you think about what they’ve created in 11 years, it’s phenomenal. And I’ve always said that if these guys showed up today as a group, they’d make everyone on this planet swoon. Because, if you look at these guys, they were each the best of the best on their instrument.”
“I mean, Robert Plant is one of the greatest voices in Rock and Roll, John Paul Jones is an amazing bassist, and a very musical keyboard and organ player. And then there’s John Bonham, one of the greatest drummers to ever step on this planet. And then, on top of all that, there is Jimmy Page, author, producer and mixer. Like what ? What the hell is going on? And these four guys met? On this island called the United Kingdom? It’s fucking amazing.”
LaBrie will release his fourth solo album, titled Beautiful Shade Of Greyon 20 May 2022.
