A Pan America 975 at Harley-Davidson

The compatibility of an accessory betrays the manufacturer’s plans

A standard version and a Special model in the boxes

Two weeks ago, Harley-Davidson lifted the veil on its Nightster, the second model of the new generation of Sportster after the 1250 S and above all the first from the Milwaukee manufacturer to be powered by the 975 cc version of the V-Twin Revolution Max. A model whose test you will find on the Lair in the days to come.

According to platform logic, the Motor Company is preparing to install this twin on a new model. If the original plans were to use this engine on the Bronx in the first place, the suspension of the roadster has reshuffled the cards and today it is the Pan America which should be the next to be declined in version of medium displacement.

In itself, this is not a huge surprise since at the time the manufacturer had indicated that the Revolution Max would equip several models and that each model would have the right to different displacements.

But now, Harley-Davidson has made a small dumpling by inadvertently disclosing information that says a lot about upcoming projects. On its American site, the manufacturer thus specified that an accessory tank cap for the Pan America 1250 was compatible with all models from 2021 and more of RA965S, RA975, RA1250 and RA1250S.

The Pan America will thus inherit the Revolution Max 975 from the Nightster

The nomenclature being the same, it seems obvious that the Pan America will be the next Wisconsin motorcycle to inherit the 975cc twin. Moreover, this is not the first time that Harley has made this kind of mistake since a similar scenario had occurred for the Nightster with a range of aluminum parts unveiled just before its presentation.

With this 975 cm3 trail, Harley-Davidson will thus be able to tackle the European BMW F750GS and F850GS, Triumph Tiger 900 and other Ducati Multistrada V2.
