What is apnea?
In patients with apnea, breathing stops about ten to fifty times a night for a few seconds. This can also be more frequent, up to dozens of times per hour. This means that patients are often startled awake to breathe and therefore sleep restlessly. It leads to sleep deprivation, people become irritable, get headaches and concentration problems. Apnea also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. It’s not life-threatening.
