Inter Miami CF vs. Atlanta United FC – Football Match Report – April 24, 2022 – Reuters Sports News

Leonardo Campana scored his fifth goal and added his second assist in Inter Miami CF’s 2-1 victory over Atlanta United FC on Sunday afternoon.

Bryce Duke’s first career MLS goal midway through the second half decided Miami’s fourth consecutive victory in all competitions for the first time in club history and third in a row in MLS.

Goalkeeper Nick Marsman made six saves to preserve the win, also matching the longest MLS winning streak for Miami (3-4-1, 10 points) three seasons into their existence.

March loan signing Ronaldo Cisneros scored his first MLS goal to give Atlanta (3-3-2, 11 points) the first lead and take a 193-minute scoreless streak.

The visitors led Miami 20-7 in total shots and 7-2 in efforts on target but are now winless with a pair of losses in their last three games.

Campana has started in the centre-forward role in four straight matches – including a midweek US Open Cup win – as Gonzalo Higuain recovers from a knee injury.

And he’s making a case for winning the full-time starting job from Higuain – the club’s all-time top scorer – with his recent form.

It continued in the 28th minute when the Ecuador international snagged DeAndre Yedlin’s cross with an exceptional first touch that eluded a defender and then drilled a low finish into the bottom right corner.

Atlanta had the better of the opportunities early in the second half. And Marsman made his best saves in those moments, saving first Thiago Almada in the 50th minute and then Cisneros in the 53rd.

In between, Brooks Lennon squandered a promising rebound look at Almada’s miss.

When Miami took the lead in the 64th minute, Campana was once again the creative influence.

Ariel Lassiter spotted Campana with a great diagonal ball to split a pair of Atlanta defenders. But instead of taking a shot from a tight angle, Campana had the presence of mind to place a cross on Duke, who had a wide-open goal awaiting his simple finish.
