LONDON
Thomas Tuchel revealed that German central defender Antonio Rüdiger will leave Chelsea when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Tuchel hoped to convince Rüdiger to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the central defender has chosen to end his stay at the London club after five seasons.
Chelsea’s attempts to keep Rüdiger were hampered by the British government’s sanctions on Chelsea’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich, with a rule that prevented the club from signing new contracts to players in the squad.
The 29-year-old, who arrived in London from Roma in 2017is in the sights of Real Madrid, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris SG interested in his services and ready to offer him a free agent offer.
Rüdiger has become vital for Tuchel’s defensethanks to his leadership and dedication, with which he has also won over the fans.
