Macron re-elected president of France – VG

RE-ELECTED: Emmanuel Macron continues as President of France.

PARIS (VG) Marine Le Pen acknowledges defeat in French presidential election. Emmanuel Macron gets a bigger victory than expected.

Published:

Preliminary results show that Emmanuel Macron received 58.2 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Marine Le Pen, received 41.8 percent.

On his own election watch, Le Pen admits defeat.

The margin in the preliminary results shows a greater victory for Macron than the average of the last opinion polls before the election. But at the same time, the margin is significantly smaller than in 2017, when Macron got 66 percent and Le Pen with her party National Assembly got 34 percent.

At the same time as acknowledging the defeat, Le Pen stated that the result was a victory for the political movement she stands at the forefront of.

OTHER LOSS IN A ROW: Both in Sunday’s election and in the 2017 election, Marine Le Pen lost to Emmanuel Macron.

France’s electoral system has a first round in which there are several candidates to vote for. If no one gets a majority here, the two candidates with the most votes will go on to a second round of elections – the one held on Sunday.

A big question has been what the 22 percent who voted for the outer left candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the first round will vote for in this ballot.

Many on the left have wanted to point out that they are dissatisfied with the current situation under Macron, but also do not want Le Pen to come to power.

– I do not agree with the policy of Emmanuel Macron, but it is less bad than Marine Le Pen, 25-year-old Juliette told VG in Paris on Sunday.

While Mehdi Garbi, who also voted for the left-wing candidate in the first round of elections, abstained.
