Purmer
A motorist from Purmerend died on Saturday evening after his car ended up in the water along Monnickendammerweg in Purmer. Police say it is most likely a single-vehicle accident.

A passing motorist saw car parts lying along the road around midnight. He stopped to see what had happened, then saw a black car drifting into the ditch. The man called 911 and emergency services arrived quickly.
The police, fire brigade, an ambulance and trauma helicopter arrived on the scene. Divers from the fire service found a man trapped in the vehicle. The victim was able to be freed from his predicament and was immediately resuscitated, but the aid was no longer of any use. The driver died from his injuries.
The Road Safety Analysis (VOA) is investigating the circumstances of the accident. It appears that the car hit a tree before it ended up in the water. The vehicle was severely damaged as a result.
