Americans are used to fighting divorces from the rich and famous, but the dirty laundry thrown out in a Virginia state court last week was a new low. Two movie stars, Johnny Depp (58) and Amber Heard (35), have taken each other to court to let a jury decide who destroyed who.
According to Depp, Heard has caused him so much damage that he can no longer work, Heard says her reputation has been destroyed because Depp calls her a liar. Both accuse each other of abusing the other during their tumultuous marriage to say the least. In short, this case only has losers and millions of Americans watch all the embarrassing personal details every day via the court’s live stream.
Destructive nightmare
Last week, Johnny Depp himself took the stand to emphasize that he has never assaulted his ex-wife and that he has never assaulted any woman. In fact, according to Depp, Heard was not the aggressor in the relationship. He reminisced about how his romance with Heard developed from a dream into a destructive nightmare, regularly locking himself in the bathroom to hide from her outbursts.
“She craved violence, a need for violence“, he said. He talked about how he lost the tip of his middle finger when Heard smashed a bottle of vodka on his hand, because she accused him of drinking again. But also how she withheld his medication when he tried to kick the habit. During the interrogation, Depp’s lawyers tried to portray Heard as a narcissistic sadistic manipulator, which Depp was no match for.
