Great cinema – dirndl history on film: presentation in Kirchberg

At the presentation of the film chroniclers in Kirchberg, the seventeen-minute contribution about the “invention of the dirndl valley” was shown. Visionaries from the region explained how “an old crop got a new identity”.

In the introduction, moderator Julia Kollermann explained how many dirndl bushes were felled from the 1950s due to agricultural modernization. Anton Gonaus, former chamber chairman and long-standing chairman of the small region, said: “An old farmer said to me that a dirndl shrub ennobles a farm. That made me rethink.”

Hotelier Hans Weiß remembered how he collected dirndls as a child. Ernst Kieninger is responsible for the editing and project management of the films. The historian Bernhard Gamsjäger acts as scientific advisor for all films. The film project about the dirndl was realized with camera and editing by the Pielachtal filmmaker Herwig Niederer and his colleague Julo Formanek.

The next screening of the film chroniclers, who are traveling through the region, is on Friday, April 29, from 7 p.m. in Frankenfels at the Gasthaus Lichtensteg.
