Two works vehicles and four other private cars with works drivers: This is how Audi is going into the 24h Nürburgring 2022
Audi is further reducing its factory line-up for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring: After three vehicles last year officially received support from the manufacturer in Ingolstadt, there will only be two this year. The Four Rings announced this in an official press release.
The Phoenix Racing and Car Collection Motorsport racing teams have been awarded the contract for factory support. The two associated GT3 cars compete under the banner “Audi Sport Team Phoenix” and “Audi Sport Team Car Collection”.
The line-up of drivers for these two works vehicles is correspondingly top-class. Robin Frijns, Kelvin van der Linde, Dries Vanthoor and Frederic Vervisch alternate in the Phoenix Racing car. At Car Collection, the quartet Christopher Haase, Nico Müller, Patric Niederhauser and Rene Rast take the wheel.
This year, the Scherer Sport by Phoenix and Lionspeed by Car Collection Motorsport teams each field two more R8 LMS on a private basis at the 24h Nürburgring. For these four vehicles, Audi is providing drivers from its driver squad, namely Mattia Drudi, Ricardo Feller, Christopher Mies, Frank Stippler and Markus Winkelhock.
Since the introduction of the FIA GT3 class in 2009, Audi has been the most successful brand in the endurance classic in the Eifel. All five overall victories of the Ingolstadt company at the 24h Nürburgring fell during this period. It prevailed in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
