Two French artists lose their lives in New York, mowed down by a subway train…

It was their dream… Unfortunately, their ultimate wish to spray paint a New York subway train turned into a nightmare for these two graphic designers from Toulouse.

Wednesday April 20, 2022, Julien Blanc alias “Jibeone” (34 years old) and Pierre Audebert (28 years old) both died suddenly, hit by a subway at Utica station in Brooklyn.

“I tried to dissuade them from doing it but they did not listen to me”

Jibeone and Pierre had settled down in New York a few days before. The latter had accompanied the graffiti artist Ceet-Fouad on a professional tour. Questioned by our colleagues from The Dispatchthe latter has already spoken about this tragedy. “Julien and Pierre, I considered them brothers. I am devastated by what happened”he said with emotion.

And to add: “Since our arrival at New York, they only thought of graffitiing a subway train. Here, in the cradle of urban culture. In the underground world, it’s a bit like an initiation rite. When I was young, I was able to do that, about twenty years ago… I knew it was extremely dangerous. Tried to talk them out of it, but they wouldn’t listen “remembered the artist who is about to return to France.

“When I checked the news on my phone and read that two men had been hit by a train in Brooklyn, I knew right away it was them.” Ceet-Fouad also explained to our colleagues that he had to identify the body of his friends a few hours later : “I received an email with photos, it was unbearable. These guys were diamonds in the rough”.

“Jibeone” and Pierre Audebert were two emerging artists particularly appreciated thanks to their talent, but also thanks to their personality. A tribute will be paid to them soon in Toulouse.
