Five people who were dealing with illegal land deals in Iaşi were placed under judicial control, among those targeted by the DIICOT prosecutors’ investigation being an employee of the Iaşi Cadastre Office and another from a notary office, News.ro reports
DIICOT prosecutors together with police officers from Iași conducted nine searches in Iaşi and Vaslui counties, targeting an organized criminal group dealing with illegal land sales.
According to investigators, the group consisted of four members, but was supported by two other people. Among the six people are an employee of the Iasi Cadastre Office, another of a notary office and an employee of the Socola Psychiatric Hospital.
Prosecutors claim that, initially, the group’s leader took steps to identify well-positioned land in Iasi, which could be used to build large-scale buildings and their owners.
Subsequently, the identity of the real owner was taken over by a member of the group, for the purpose of selling the land without right, then appearing before notaries public as the real owner and requesting the conclusion of notarial deeds (legalization of documents, notarial powers, certification of facts, etc.), necessary in order to sell the property to the interested persons.
After obtaining these documents, another member of the group appeared before the notaries, using the power of attorney obtained from the one who had usurped the identity of the real owner, in order to complete the contract of sale – purchase of the property.
Thus, in April 2021, the group’s leader identified an urban land in the city of Iasi, with a market value of about six million euros, owned by an elderly person living in Switzerland.
“Subsequently, using a forged identity card, apparently issued in the name of the real owner, through the member who was an employee of the Iasi Cadastre Office, he obtained the documents necessary for the alienation of the building, respectively a copy of the title deed, cadastral sketch, site plan and completion of tabulation. As the member of the organized criminal group, who appeared in the identity card apparently issued in the name of the real owner, was not a person to inspire confidence, a forged medical certificate was obtained through the defendant employed at the Socola Iasi Psychiatric Hospital stating that it is clinically healthy, it is used to obtain a notarial power of attorney for the other member of the organized criminal group. Also, through the defendant employed in the notary office in Iaşi, a legalized copy of the title deed was obtained, although its original was not in the possession of the group members “, it is shown in a communiqué sent on Thursday by DIICOT.
In May last year, a potential buyer of the land was identified, steps were taken to complete the sale of the land for the amount of 1,800,000 euros and the necessary notarial deeds were drawn up.
The sale-purchase contract has not been completed, the potential buyer withdrawing at the last minute.
“Subsequently, the members of the organized criminal group took steps to mislead the second injured person in order to conclude a contract for the sale-purchase of land in Iasi, the completion of the contract being refused by the notary public,” he said. DIICOT prosecutors.
At the headquarters of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism Crimes – Iaşi Territorial Service, 10 persons were heard regarding whom there is a reasonable suspicion that they were involved in the criminal activity.
Following the activities carried out in the case, the prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Iaşi Territorial Service ordered the taking of the measure of judicial control for a period of 60 days against five persons.
