In an exclusive interview with the US network NBC, Prince Harry recounted details of his recent meeting with Queen Elizabeth II, his grandmother, stressing that he was in “good shape” and that he wanted to make sure during the visit that he was “protected” and surrounded by the right people.
During the conversation with NBC, the Duke of Sussex spoke about the meeting that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, had with the British monarch last week with which, as he explained, they had tea.
Harry told the show Today that he and Meghan laughed a couple of times during their meeting with the queen, who is in “good shape” after being infected by covid-19.
Prince Harry and his brief family reunion
The couple, who had not been together in the United Kingdom since they parted ways with the Royal House in early 2020, met not only with Elizabeth II, but also with her father, Prince Charles, according to the local press.
The visit, which had not been publicly announced, came after Harry missed a March 29 memorial service for his late grandfather, Prince Philip, at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony was attended by the queen, who has recently limited her appearances due to mobility problems.
“Being with her was great,” said the Duke of Sussex in the interview, an instance in which he referred to the fifth edition of the invictus gamesa sports competition that the couple attended in the Netherlands on a trip that they took advantage of to visit Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom.
“It was nice to see her, you know?” He added before specifying that his grandmother always “has a great sense of humor” and often laughs with him.
The queen’s grandson gave no sign that he would return to London and insisted, when asked, that he would continue to live, along with Meghan Markle and their two children, in California, United States.
