Instagram Disturbed by the Phenomenon of Users Reposting TikTok Content to Reels

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Social media Instagram asking users not to re-upload or repost content showing on TikTok ke Reels.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri says he values creators who create separate content for TikTok and Reels.

“If you create new content, you should get a lot more credit than those who just share it. We do more to try and reward original content than reposted content,” says Adam.

Because of this, Instagram made a number of new changes to ensure credit goes to creators, who deserve it. First, product tags available to all users, user categorization, and promotion of organic content.

While original content is nothing new, Adam said it will lean toward user-generated original content.

In addition, parent company Meta sees Facebook and Instagram as focused on content creators, not as tools for people to connect users’ friends.

So both platforms have invested heavily, and deployed a number of ways to engage audiences and creators on their features.

It is also known that it wants to attract many users to switch to the two platforms, from TikToker and YouTubers to Facebook Instagramer and Facebooker.

Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called Reels short video the fastest growing content format so far, and is now available on Facebook and Instagram.

But anyone who uses Reels knows it can feel like a TikTok clone, often with the same content recently reposted with the TikTok logo.

Asking how Instagram will determine which content is considered original, Adam considers it difficult to do so. Adam thinks the change is likely to be a big problem for account aggregators, many of whom share memes and trending posts.

“As we lean more towards recommendations, it becomes increasingly important that we don’t overvalue aggregators, as that would be bad for content creators,” Adam said on Twitter.

The push to produce original content on Meta’s social media is nothing new, and it’s undeniable that popular content on Facebook and Instagram tends to be plagiarized.

The Meta platform has the largest audience, but TikTok, Twitter and others tend to be where new memes and trends are quoted The Verge.

To address this situation, if Instagram and Facebook are to become successful platforms for content creators, they must find a way to reverse it.
