Kornwestheim. A 78-year-old from Kornwestheim fell victim to the scam via instant messaging service Whatsapp on Wednesday. According to the police, the man received a message from his supposed son. The latter had written to him under a new phone number that his mobile phone was defective and that he could therefore not make or authorize any online transfers for the next 48 hours. As a result, there was an exchange of messages, in the course of which the “son” asked the 75-year-old to make transfers. The 75-year-old transferred several thousand euros to different account numbers that the scammers sent to him. It was only when his actual son called him that the fraud was exposed. Two transfers could be subsequently stopped and returned, but there was damage of over 2000 euros. The Kornwestheim police station has taken over the investigation. (red)
