Welterweight boxing star Yordenis Ugas was rushed to a local hospital in Texas to have his disfigured face evaluated after he was punched by Errol Spence Jr. on Saturday night.

The 35-year-old fighter was stopped with 1:44 remaining in the 10th round, and referee Laurence Cole insisted that a ringside doctor had to check the Cuban’s eye a second time. Despite protests from Ugas, the fight was stopped.

Cole had initially sent Ugas into the corner with just under a minute to go in the eighth round, when the doctor spent some time checking the fighter’s peripheral vision. Spence kept hitting and eventually forced the stoppage.

As a result, Ugas was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, according to ESPN. He was not present at the post-fight press conference.

With the win, Spence became a three-belt welterweight champion by adding the WBA title to his WBC and IBF belts. Spence, fighting for the first time in more than 16 months, improved to 28-0 with his 22nd knockout.

Spence, who faced legend Manny Pacquiao last August before suffering an eye injury, is now eyeing a clash with WBO champion Terence Crawford to challenge for the title of undisputed welterweight world champion. He called out Crawford immediately after the fight, letting the world know what fight he wants next.

“Everybody knows who I want next,” the 32-year-old said after his win. “I want Terence Crawford next.

“That’s the fight I want, that’s the fight everyone else wants and like I said, I’m going to get these straps. I’m going to go over there and take your shit too.

“Terence, I’m going for that mother belt.”

Crawford was watching the clash and immediately took to social media to congratulate Spence on the win. However, the 34-year-old immediately warned the New York-born champion that he will lose the title to him.

“Congratulations, great fight now that the real fight is happening,” Crawford tweeted. “No more talk, no more side of the street, come on!

“Keep my belts warm, I’ll be coming to grammar later this year.”
