A spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, will issue strong warnings to our neighboring countries Sweden and Finland on Wednesday.
Russia fears that the two countries will apply for NATO membership.
– We have given our warnings, both publicly and through bilateral channels. They know this, so there is nothing to be surprised about. They were informed about everything, where it would lead, says Zakharova.
The sensational statement is said to have appeared in a TV interview with the channel Russia-24, reproduced by the state-owned the news agency TASS.
Exactly what consequences will come from a future NATO membership is not specified.

On the same day, the news came of a record high NATO support in Sweden, where a new poll shows that 57 percent answer yes to membership.
– The upward trend continues. A number as high as 57 is sensational, says Demoskop manager Karin Nelsson, according to NTB.
Debate is ongoing
In Finland, the debate is in full swing on Wednesday. A security policy report presented during Easter week now forms the basis for whether the country will consider NATO membership.
Although the government did not make a direct recommendation, the report contains several points about how a potential membership will benefit the country.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, support has changed in favor of membership, reports NTB.
It is expected that both countries will decide in good time before the summit in Madrid at the end of June.
