Leonid Kheifets was born on May 4, 1934 in Minsk. Graduated from the Minsk Polytechnic Institute and GITIS.
He was the director of the Central Theater of the Soviet Army, the Maly Theater, the Mayakovsky Theater, staged performances at the Mossovet Theater, Sovremennik, and the Stanislavsky Theater. He has worked in theaters in Riga, Istanbul, Warsaw, France and Bulgaria.
In addition to GITIS, he taught at the Shchepkin Theater School and the Shchukin Theater Institute. His students were Pavel Derevyanko, Artur Smolyaninov, Alexander Pal.
