Uruguayan forward from Benfica is one of the most desirable players in the European market these days
The ‘Daily Mail’ anticipates a heated fight between Premier League clubs over the signing of Darwin next summer. The newspaper explains that the Benfica forward faced a kind of test in the Champions League tie against Liverpool, an ‘audition’ that, although it did not go well for the Reds, turned out to be quite positive for the Uruguayan in individual terms – he scored two goals to reds, one at Luz and another at Anfield. The paper says Darwin “has shown the pace and strength necessary to play in Premier Lesgue” and speaks on behalf of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham. And the forward’s numbers are convincing: he scored 33 goals in 38 games, 10 of them in the Champions League. If we add to this the fact that he is only 22 years old, you can see why this race is expected to be unbridled by the hiring of him.
But whoever wants to take Darwin will have to open their purse strings, as Benfica will not let their crown jewel come out at a bargain price. The ‘Daily Mail’ – which recalls the player’s change of manager – quotes the portal ‘The Athletic’ and talks about 70 million euros.
English clubs are not, however, the only ones interested in Darwin. Atlético Madrid, Milan, PSG and Juventus have also been pointed out as possible destinations for the Uruguayan forward, who promises to be one of the main figures in the market next summer. “Let the battle begin,” writes the Daily Mail.
