Three people have been shot by the police in Swedish Norrköping after violent demonstrations against a planned Koran burning, sources tell Norrköpings Tidning.

Just before 6 p.m. Norrköpings Tidning that three people were shot by the police. Before that, the police had fired warning shots at protesters who, among other things, had set fire to several cars.

One of those who was shot was sent to hospital with injuries to the shoulder discs Aftonbladet. The news agency TT has published photos of a man who is said to have been shot in the leg and is being taken care of by police and ambulance personnel.

The controversial Danish politician Rasmus Paludan had plans to hold meetings and burn Korans in both Norrköping and Linköping on Sunday, but failed.

The police said at 4 pm that they did not believe the actions would be carried out, and that it was not the intention to carry them out either.

In Navestad in Norrköping, several cars were set on fire, and the police fired warning shots at the counter-protesters who had gathered.

– Around 100-150 people act very aggressively towards the police. Several people have thrown stones at the police and police cars, police spokesperson Åsa Willsund says Norrköpings Tidningar.

Masked people are believed to have broken cobblestones from the street.

The police use drones to keep track of the district.

– Not permission

The police are also in place in Skäggetorp in Linköping, where Koran burning was also reported. Aftonbladet’s reporter describes the situation at the site as uneasy, and at around 3 pm the newspaper writes that stones have been thrown at the police.

According to the police, Paludan has not been given permission to hold any of the gatherings he is planning on Sunday.
