Why Gert Verhulst is not in the top 25 richest entertainers

“Gert Verhulst is a difficult case,” says Ludwig Verduyn. “We wanted to focus primarily on performing artists, people who make most of their money in front of the camera. Verhulst may already be a TV personality, but the income from that sinks into nothing compared to the 120 million he is worth via Studio 100.”

How does the financial journalist get that 120 million? “In 2020, entrepreneur Vic Swerts and investor Frank Donck bought a quarter of the Studio 100 shares. The company was valued at 500 million euros and the deal earned Hans Bourlon and Gert Verhulst 40 million. The two founders each retained 25 percent of the shares. Due to corona, Studio 100 and Plopsa did make a loss in 2020, which reduced the company value to around 320 million. Verhulst’s share package is therefore worth about 80 million on paper. That is why I see him more as a top manager.” With that 120 million euros, Verhulst would be around 185th place in the list of richest Belgians.
