Elkan Baggott made a record as the first Indonesian player to play in a football competition Premier League.
Baggott played as a trio of centre-backs for Ipswich Town with Luke Woolfenden and Janoi Donacien in a 3-5-2 formation against Rotherham United in League One, or the third division in the English football competition system.
The player, who has already registered caps in the Indonesian national team, started the action when the match was not even one minute. Baggott won the aerial duel to dispel the ball that the opposing goalkeeper threw straight into the Ipswich defense area.
However, the action did not count because the linesman first raised the offside flag.
Baggott was then actively involved in Ipswich’s defensive actions. The 19-year-old also helps the attack when there are opportunities from set pieces, such as corners.
The match against Rotherham was Baggott’s first appearance in the Premier League. Previously Baggott had been a substitute, but was not played.
In addition, Baggott also appeared in the EFL Trophy last year, when Ipswich met Gillingham.
Baggott is one of the Indonesian national team players who play abroad besides Egy Maulana Vikri, Witn Sulaeman, Asnawi Mangkualam Bahar, Pratama Arhan, and Saddil Ramdani.
Baggott also received a call to strengthen the U-23 Indonesian National Team at the 2022 SEA Games, but Ipswich reportedly did not allow Baggott to return to Indonesia to participate in events that were not included in the official FIFA calendar.
