Last July, an American who attacked several flight attendants on a plane was glued to her seat. She is now being fined a record tens of thousands of dollars.
The US Federal Aviation Administration breaks a new record. A passenger who had had an anxiety attack and who had tried to open the boarding gate of her plane on July 6 was fined a particularly large fine: she will have to pay a sum of 81,950 dollars (i.e. more than 75,000 euros). Unheard of in the history of American aviation.
In fact, on July 6, the passenger boarded a flight between Dallas and Charlotte, aboard a plane belonging to American Airlines. She was seized with an anxiety attack and tried to open the boarding gate before the aircraft took off, as reported The Independent. The flight attendants stopped her before trying to calm her down. She then attacked several officers. One of them was even bitten.

The flight attendants then decided to put her back in her seat, tie her hands and tape her in place. As the passenger continued to scream, flight attendants also placed tape over her mouth. Several videos of witnesses leaving the aircraft when it landed in Charlotte showed the young woman strapped to her seat.
The case was commented on at the time by US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg: “If you’re on a plane, don’t be a jerk and don’t endanger the flight crew and other passengers. If you do, do, you will be sanctioned by the FAA.”
