The Joe Biden Administration previously announced that $800 million in security assistance would be delivered to Ukraine, including artillery, coastal defense drones, anti-aircraft and anti-tank armored vehicles, and Mi-17 helicopters.
Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said the defense system approved by the US reflects the type of battle Ukraine is expected to face as Russia focuses on eastern Ukraine.
The announcement comes one month after President Joe Biden approved a separate $800 million arms package for Kiev.
But Moscow took issue with the advanced weapons systems the US and NATO countries have delivered to Ukraine and in a diplomatic memo this week.
Diplomatic notes from Moscow are known to have been sent on Tuesday this week. The memo was titled: “On Russia’s concerns in the context of the massive supply of weapons and military equipment to the Kiev regime.”
