JAKARTA – Diverse sky phenomenon that occurred during Ramadan 2022 has and will take place, meteor showers are one of them.
Reporting from Langitselatan, Friday (15/4/2022), there are at least eight celestial phenomena that have and will take place during Ramadan 2022 in April 2022.
So, what are the celestial phenomena that occur during Ramadan 2022? Further details below:
April 3 (Superior Conjunction of Mercury)
Mercury will pass close to the Sun in the sky so that the planet disappears and will not be visible to observers on Earth. At the time of superior conjunction, the Sun is between Mercury and Earth, and is only 1.03 degrees apart from the Sun.
When Mercury is at its furthest from Earth, it will be at a distance of 1.34 AU from Earth. If Mercury is observable, then the planet is very faint with a disk diameter of 5 arcseconds.
April 5 (Mars – Saturn Conjunction)
Mars and Saturn can be observed in very close pairs only 0.3º to the east before sunrise. Both are at an altitude of 42º at sunrise. This pair of planets can be observed since 02:29 WIB when they both rise.
April 22-23 (Lyrid Meteor Shower)
The meteor shower from the tail of Comet Thatcher C/1861 G1 will peak on April 23. Every year, the Lyrid meteor shower lasts from April 14 to 30 and can be observed after the constellation Lyra, which is the direction of its arrival, rises at 22:08 WIB.
When Lyrid reaches maximum intensity, observers can only see 20 meteors per hour moving at a speed of 48.8 km/s.
The half moon rising at midnight is bright enough to interfere with hunting for the Lyrid meteor shower. The best time for observation starts at midnight when the direction of Lyrid is already quite high about 30º above the horizon. At the same time, the Moon also rises in the east.
