The European Commission is studying Microsoft for the possible existence of practices that threaten competitiveness in the Cloud business.

This is not a formal investigation at this time.but as reported by the Financial Times from the European Commission, a scrutiny of Microsoft’s practices in its business in the Cloud would have been initiated in case it was putting into practice behaviors that threaten free competition.
The reasons for this are the changes that Microsoft would have recently introduced in the terms of business of its Cloud services, changes that would have generated discomfort among large clients and that would also have caused complaints among rival companies of Cloud services.
initially from the European Commission has distributed a questionnaire among customers and competitors of Microsoft in order to determine if these practices constitute an attack against free competition. What has occurred is the accusation of engaging in such practices by various companies, such as NextCloud and OVHCloud.
The accusations refer to the dominant position in the Cloud through the licenses of products such as Office in combination with Azureus (the Microsoft Cloud) and the combination of the Windows operating system with OneDrive, Microsoft’s file storage platform. Both suppose an increase in cost for the final user of the Cloud services of rival companies.
The submitted questionnaires had to be delivered before April 7, so a decision is now expected by the European Commission, which, if it finds reasons for it, could initiate a formal investigation against Microsoft.
