Apple Watch: blood glucose sensor and blood pressure monitor will not arrive before 2024

Some innovations expected for the Apple Watch would unfortunately not arrive anytime soon. Indeed, a new report from Bloomberg has just pointed out that the blood glucose sensor and the blood pressure monitor have fallen behind at Apple. Faced with some technical difficulties, the two technologies would thus not be available before the year 2024. We would therefore have to wait at least for the Apple Watch Series 10 to see these functionalities arrive on the connected watches of the firm at the apple.

No blood sugar and blood pressure measurements for the Apple Watch anytime soon

A few months ago, rumors pointed to the arrival of a blood pressure monitorto measure blood pressure, as well as a blood glucose sensor, to measure blood sugar levels, on the next generations of Apple Watch. Unfortunately, Apple has reportedly failed to materialize these plans for the time being. As a reminder, a postponement had already been announced by the media The Verge at the beginning of the year for the year 2023.

Mark Gurman has now specified in a new report that it would still be necessary wait a few years before seeing these two technologies arrive on connected watches from the apple firm. The journalist from Bloomberg indeed underlines that Apple would have ” encountered some difficulties ” about the blood pressure measurement. As a result, the functionality would have been postponed to 2024 or 2025. In particular, it is specified that engineers would have difficulty in making this measurement precise enough, especially in people suffering from high blood pressure.

Still concerning the sensor arterial pressureMark Gurman explains that Apple will not have opted for the same system than that embedded in Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4, in particular requiring monthly calibration via a traditional monitor. The American company would thus consider that its Apple Watches do not have to require regular calibration. Thus, we can think that the blood pressure measurement of these connected watches will not give precise values, but will only serve as a preventive tool in the event that users suffer from hypertension.

About the blood glucose measurementor the level of sugar in the blood, Mark Gurman explains that the Apple Watch should still wait ” several years before enjoying it. No release date for such a sensor has been set internally. In order to compensate for the absence of this feature, which is eagerly awaited by people with diabetes, Apple intends to improve support for third-party glucometers.
