The big band of the orchestra “Riga” will be conducted by Raitis Ašmanis, they will be joined by bright jazz vocalists – Cecilia Verne from Côte d’Ivoire (pictured) and Evilena Protectors.
According to the orchestra’s representative Lana Kazlauskiene, the jazz music repertoire is another significant feature of the orchestra “Riga”, the expressiveness of which was also taken care of by the conductor Raitis Ašmanis for several years. The reunion of both will take place in the original music and arrangements for the big band created by Grammy and Emmy winner and multiple nominee Patrick Williams (1939-2018).
Patrick Williams’ diverse performance in music has also been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy Award. His creative account includes music for more than 64 feature films, 100 television films and 25 series, about 30 extended-format compositions and 19 music albums. Several recordings of Patrick Williams’ big band are considered the standard for today’s big band repertoire. Among them are the outstanding albums “Threshold” (1973), “Tenth Avenue” (1986), and “Sinatraland” (1998) – a tribute to the singer Frank Sinatra, who entrusted the musical management of his latest music recordings to William.
Raitis Ašmanis, the creator of the concert program, says that Patrick Williams’ music is played in Latvia – it enjoys the listeners, but it is full of challenges for the musicians themselves. A dynamic, bubbly, written big band composed with additional flutes, clarinets and even horns, achieving a timbre variety. It often has the characteristic mood of film music. Improvisation plays an important role in the jazz opuses of Patrick Williams, which will be heard in the concert in almost all instrument groups.
The big band of the orchestra “Rīga” will be joined by the French singer Cécile Verny, who is currently living in Portugal and was born in Côte d’Ivoire. Evilena Protektore, the owner of strong, suggestive jazz vocals, will also play in the concert. The singers will perform Patrick Williams’ masterfully arranged songs by Duke Elington, Morgan Louis, Herold Arlen, Feta Voler, as well as touch on the vocal and instrumental contribution of other authors important to the jazz scene.
The concert will be recorded by Latvijas Radio 3 “Klasika”. Concert tickets are available “Ticket Paradise” box offices.
