Authority Ukraine announced the arrest of a prominent pro-Kremlin Ukrainian tycoon or tycoon, who escaped from house arrest after Russia launched its invasion last February. This Ukrainian tycoon named Viktor Medvedchuk, also known as an ally of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As reported AFPWednesday (13/4/2022), President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a picture online showing Medvedchuk looking disheveled with his hands in handcuffs and wearing a Ukrainian military uniform.
“Special operations have been carried out by the Ukrainian Security Service. Good!” Zelensky wrote in his Telegram post.
The head of Ukraine’s security services, Ivan Bakanov, separately said agents had carried out “a lightning-fast and dangerous multi-level special operation to detain” lawmakers friendly to Russia.
“No traitor will escape punishment and all will be held accountable under Ukrainian law,” the Ukrainian security service said in a telegram.
Medvedchuk, who is one of the richest people in Ukraine, has become a highly controversial figure because of his proximity to Moscow.
The 67-year-old tycoon is known to regard Putin as one of his personal friends and refers to the Kremlin leader as the godfather of his youngest daughter Darya.
